Tata Steel Projects - focus on Defence & Security

02 Dec 2011

Tata Steel Projects has reorganised the Defence and Security (Bi-Steel) team to focus on its customers’ needs. The team will be dedicated to developing the most appropriate protective construction and hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) solutions to meet individual customer’s requirements to protect against terrorist and criminal attack.

The key market facing contact for new business opportunities will be Sales Manager, Philip May. “Our systems are carefully designed to blend with the surrounding environment and are currently in use protecting high profile commercial, government and military sites, including the Palace of Westminster, New Scotland Yard and major UK airports,” said Philip.

According to Tata Steel Projects’ Director, Niall McCreanor, “A focus on the Defence and Security marketplace continues to be part of our strategic plans for Tata Steel Projects. We are also optimistic about the benefits of leveraging our skills in consultancy, design, manufacturing and delivery across a number of other key identified market sectors, including Rail and Transportation, and Energy and Power.”

Our Defence and Security solutions focus on:

Protective Construction
- our patented Bi-Steel construction material has been extensively tested against blast. Applications range from single blast walls to complete blast and ballistics protected structures.

Hostile Vehicle Mitigation - we provide permanent protective walls and bollard systems with shallow foundations for rapid installation, whilst our redeployable (surface mounted) barrier system can be put into position quickly and reconfigured to meet changing security requirements. All of our products have been tested in line with PAS68 - the industry standard for vehicle impact testing.

As part of this re-focus, the Crowthorne office will be closed and the Defence and Security team will relocate to a Tata Steel office in Reading. These changes will enable greater alignment with the sales and project management resource within the Tata Steel Projects business as a whole, across its other offices in York, Workington, Manchester and Birmingham. These business efficiencies will also allow the organisation to fully benefit from the market expertise in key Tata Steel Europe sectors such as Rail, and Energy and Power.
